Kerse was the fifth of his order, and the Marr associated with Death and Destruction. Like most of his kind, he was responsible for guiding souls and maintaining the paths between the mortal realms and the afterworlds. He does not have the power to stop or reverse death, but he can occasionally stall it. He had two Miratar (lesser-spirits) who served alongside him—Eshma, the Shadow Spirit, and Talos, the Blood Spirit (the latter of which is not to be confused with the elven king of Mistwilde, who is also named Talos).
Kerse and Elander Revenmar are the same being. When he angered the upper-god he served by saving the dying sister of a woman he’d fallen in love with, he was stripped of his divinity and banished to the mortal realm, whereupon he took on the human name ‘Elander’.
